Listening 101 is a training offered by the Community Mediation Center in Harrisonburg, VA. CMC is the longest-running mediation center in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has coordinated thousands of mediations. This work is possible only with the deep listening mediators create and maintain. Listening 101 is designed to share these fundamental skills in a convenient way for people to apply in their work, home, and life.

Kai Degner

Kai is founder of The OrangeBand Initiative, a project designed to promote listening for the care and understanding it makes possible.

He has designed and moderated over 300 community dialogues and debates, been on the steering committee for the National Conference for Dialogue and Deliberation, and currently works at the Community Mediation Center in Harrisonburg, VA.

Kai currently serves as mayor in Harrisonburg, a role where listening is rather important! Kai has an MBA from James Madison University.
